Police Control Room
Full Form of PCC
What is PCC?
A Police Control Room (PCC) is the central command and coordination hub for police operations in a city or district. It serves as the primary point of contact for emergency calls received via the general emergency number (such as 100 in India) and dispatches patrol units, ambulances, or fire services as needed. The PCC monitors real-time inputs from CCTV cameras, GPS-tracked vehicles, and field officers to manage crime prevention, traffic control, and crisis response. In India, PCCs operate 24/7 and are critical for swift law enforcement, especially during riots, natural disasters, or major events. They also coordinate with other agencies like the state police, railway police, and traffic police. For competitive exams like UPSC, state civil services, and police recruitment, knowledge of PCC functions and the public emergency response system is often tested. The PCC symbolises modern policing, integrating technology with traditional beat patrols to improve public safety.
