Operation Zonal Headquarters
Full Form of OZH
What is OZH?
Operation Zonal Headquarters (OZH) is a temporary or permanent command centre established by the Indian Armed Forces to oversee military operations within a designated geographical zone. These headquarters coordinate strategy, logistics, intelligence, and troop movements during combat, counter-insurgency, disaster relief, or large-scale exercises. In India, OZHs are activated by the Army, Navy, or Air Force as per operational requirements, often in sensitive border areas such as Jammu & Kashmir, the Northeast, or along the Line of Actual Control. The term is used officially in defence planning documents, internal communication, and during joint exercises. Each OZH reports to a higher command (e.g., Corps or Command Headquarters) and is staffed by officers from multiple branches. For aspirants preparing for defence exams like the Combined Defence Services (CDS) or National Defence Academy (NDA), understanding the structure and function of OZHs is important because questions on command hierarchy and operational preparedness frequently appear. The OZH exemplifies how the Indian military adapts its command-and-control architecture to dynamic security challenges.
