What is OYX?

Overseas Youth eXchange (OYX) is a bilateral cultural and educational programme that facilitates the exchange of young individuals between India and partner countries. Administered under the Ministry of External Affairs in collaboration with host nations, OYX aims to foster mutual understanding, leadership skills, and global awareness among Indian youth. Participants typically spend two to four weeks abroad, engaging in workshops, homestays, and community service projects. In India, the programme is most relevant for college students and recent graduates seeking international exposure without the lengthy commitment of degree courses. The initiative also supports reverse exchanges, where foreign youth visit India to experience its diverse culture. OYX operates in over 15 countries including Japan, Germany, and Australia, and selection is merit-based with a focus on rural and underprivileged applicants.
