Official Quarantine Home
Full Form of OQH
What is OQH?
An Official Quarantine Home (OQH) is a designated government-managed facility where individuals who may have been exposed to an infectious disease, such as COVID-19, are required to stay for a specified period to monitor their health and prevent further transmission. In India, OQHs were extensively established during the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly for international travelers and those in close contact with confirmed cases. These facilities were set up in hotels, hostels, and other institutional buildings, often run by state health departments or district administrations. The term is commonly used in public health orders, travel advisories, and government circulars. OQHs played a crucial role in India's containment strategy, providing free or subsidized accommodation, meals, and medical check-ups. They are distinct from home quarantine, which is voluntary self-isolation. For competitive exams like UPSC or state health services, understanding OQHs is relevant under disaster management and public health emergency response. The protocol for OQH includes strict monitoring, disinfection, and clearance only after a negative test or completion of the isolation period.
