One Hour Yoga
Full Form of OHY
What is OHY?
OHY stands for One Hour Yoga, a structured yoga session lasting 60 minutes that balances asanas (postures), pranayama (breathing exercises), and meditation. In India, where yoga originated, OHY is commonly practiced in studios, fitness centers, and even corporate workplaces to improve physical flexibility, mental clarity, and stress management. The one-hour format is widely adopted because it fits neatly into busy schedules—morning sessions before work or evening classes after office hours. Many Indian schools and colleges have also introduced OHY as part of their physical education curriculum, aligning with the government's push for holistic wellness through initiatives like the International Day of Yoga. For competitive exams such as UGC NET or CTET that include health and physical education topics, OHY is referenced as a practical approach to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. The session typically starts with gentle warm-ups, progresses through 10–12 asanas, includes deep breathing techniques, and ends with a relaxation phase. OHY is also promoted in Indian corporate wellness programs to reduce sedentary lifestyle risks. While not a formal term in ancient yogic texts, it has become a practical modern adaptation for time-bound practice.
