What is NYG?
The National Youth Games (NYG) are India’s flagship multi-sport event for athletes under the age of 17, organized annually by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. Launched in 2019 with the inaugural edition in Pune, Maharashtra, the NYG replaced the earlier National School Games and serve as a vital platform for scouting and nurturing young sporting talent from across the country. The event features a wide range of disciplines including athletics, swimming, wrestling, boxing, gymnastics, and several team sports. Each edition rotates among different states, with the 2022 games hosted in Madhya Pradesh and subsequent editions in other regions to promote regional sports development. The NYG play a crucial role in building a robust pipeline for national and international competitions, including the Commonwealth Games and Olympics.
