National X-ray Network
Full Form of NXN
What is NXN?
The National X-ray Network (NXN) is a proposed centralized digital infrastructure in India designed to enable the secure sharing and storage of X-ray images across healthcare institutions. Part of the broader Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), NXN aims to connect public and private hospitals, diagnostic centers, and clinics, allowing radiologists and physicians to access patient X-rays from any location in real time. This reduces duplication of scans, speeds up diagnosis, and facilitates telemedicine consultations, especially in rural areas where specialist availability is limited. While still in conceptual stages, NXN leverages existing standards like DICOM and integrates with the National Health Stack to ensure interoperability. By digitizing and networking X-ray archives, the system can also support AI-based screening for tuberculosis, lung cancer, and other conditions. For medical students and healthcare professionals preparing for competitive exams like NEET PG or AIIMS, understanding digital health initiatives such as NXN is increasingly relevant under the new National Medical Commission curriculum.
