National Vocational Training
Full Form of NVT
What is NVT?
National Vocational Training (NVT) is a flagship programme under the Directorate General of Training (DGT), Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India. It aims to enhance the employability of Industrial Training Institute (ITI) graduates by providing advanced, industry-aligned skill training. NVT courses are typically short-term, modular, and focus on niche trades such as robotics, solar technology, and healthcare. The programme was launched to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge acquired in ITIs and practical demands of the job market. It is implemented across all states and union territories through a network of government and private ITIs. NVT is particularly relevant for candidates preparing for competitive exams like SSC, Railways, and state-level recruitment, where questions on government skill development initiatives are common. The training includes both on-the-job and classroom components, with assessments leading to certification recognized by industry bodies. Since its inception, NVT has trained lakhs of youth, contributing to the government's Skill India mission. It also supports entrepreneurship by including modules on business management and financial literacy. The programme undergoes periodic revision to keep pace with technological changes, making it a dynamic tool for youth empowerment. For exam aspirants, understanding NVT is important for General Knowledge sections on government schemes and policies.
