Network Video Recorder
Full Form of NVR
What is NVR?
A Network Video Recorder (NVR) is a specialized computer system that records video footage from IP cameras over a network, rather than from analog cameras like a DVR. In India, NVRs are widely used in security and surveillance systems for homes, offices, shopping malls, banks, and government buildings. They store, manage, and stream high-definition video, often supporting remote viewing via smartphones or computers. With the rapid expansion of smart city projects and digital security mandates across Indian metropolitan and rural areas, NVR adoption has surged. They are preferred for their scalability—hundreds of cameras can connect to a single NVR—and for supporting advanced features like motion detection, audio recording, and analytics. While not directly an exam topic, NVR concepts appear in technology and engineering curricula, especially in courses related to computer networks, electronics, and security systems. Understanding NVR is also useful for competitive exams like GATE, where network-based storage and surveillance are covered under data communication topics. In daily Indian usage, NVRs are increasingly common in gated communities and corporate parks.
