National Quality Council
Full Form of NQC
What is NQC?
The National Quality Council (NQC) is the apex body established by the Government of India under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry. It serves as a strategic policy-making and coordinating institution to promote quality, standardization, and accreditation across manufacturing and service sectors in India. The NQC was set up to align Indian quality infrastructure with international best practices, thereby boosting exports and consumer confidence. It reviews and recommends reforms for quality certification systems, supports the adoption of standards by MSMEs, and works closely with organizations like the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and the Quality Council of India (QCI). The council is used in government, industry forums, and policy documents to guide quality assurance initiatives across sectors such as food processing, textiles, electronics, and healthcare. For competitive exams like UPSC, SSC, and state civil services, questions on NQC often appear under economic governance and the Make in India initiative. Understanding its role helps aspirants grasp India's efforts to enhance product quality and global competitiveness.
