Next Generation Network
Full Form of NNG
What is NNG?
Next Generation Network (NGN) is a packet-based telecommunications network that integrates voice, data, and multimedia services over a single IP infrastructure, replacing traditional circuit-switched networks. In India, NGN deployment has been spearheaded by state-owned telecom operators like BSNL and MTNL to modernize rural and urban connectivity, enabling faster broadband, VoIP, and IPTV services. The shift to NGN allows for cost-effective scalability, improved quality of service, and support for emerging technologies such as 5G and IoT. Indian telecom regulators, including TRAI, have promoted NGN adoption to bridge the digital divide and boost the government's Digital India initiative. NGN is used extensively in enterprise networks, data centers, and by internet service providers across the country. For students preparing for competitive exams like GATE or those in telecommunications engineering, understanding NGN's architecture and its role in India's network evolution is important. The technology faces challenges in legacy infrastructure upgrades but remains central to India's broadband expansion plans.
