National Logistics Authority
Full Form of NLA
What is NLA?
The National Logistics Authority (NLA) is a government body established under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) in India to coordinate and improve the country's logistics sector. It was formed in 2021 as part of the National Logistics Policy to reduce logistics costs, enhance efficiency, and promote multi-modal transportation. The NLA acts as a single-window platform for resolving logistics-related issues, streamlining regulatory processes, integrating digital systems, and monitoring key performance indicators. It works closely with states, ministries, and private stakeholders to implement initiatives such as the Logistics Ease Across Different States (LEADS) index and the Unified Logistics Interface Platform (ULIP). The authority is used in policy-making, infrastructure planning, and operational coordination across sectors including transportation, warehousing, and cold chains. For students preparing for competitive exams like UPSC, SSC, or banking, the NLA is an important topic under government schemes and economic reforms. Its role in enhancing India's trade competitiveness and achieving the goal of reducing logistics cost from 14% to 8% of GDP makes it a frequently asked concept in current affairs sections.
