National Green Agriculture Kendra
Full Form of NGAK
What is NGAK?
The National Green Agriculture Kendra (NGAK) is a government-supported initiative aimed at promoting sustainable and eco-friendly farming practices across rural India. Operating under the broader framework of India's agricultural development strategy, NGAK centres function as resource hubs where farmers receive hands-on training on organic cultivation, water conservation techniques, soil health management, and the use of bio-fertilisers instead of chemical inputs. The programme plays a vital role in supporting small and marginal farmers, particularly in semi-arid regions, tribal belts, and rain-fed areas, by linking them with modern agronomic techniques that reduce input costs while improving yield quality. NGAK works in close coordination with state agricultural departments, Krishi Vigyan Kendras, ICAR research institutions, and various NGOs to ensure that knowledge transfer reaches the grassroots level. The initiative also aligns with India's commitments under international climate agreements, encouraging low-carbon and climate-resilient agriculture. Students preparing for competitive examinations such as UPSC Civil Services, NABARD Grade A, and state public service commissions should familiarise themselves with NGAK, as it frequently features in questions related to agricultural policy, rural development schemes, and sustainable farming programmes introduced by the Government of India.
