New Fund Offer
Full Form of NFO
What is NFO?
A New Fund Offer (NFO) is the launch of a new mutual fund scheme by an Asset Management Company (AMC) in India. During an NFO, the fund house invites investors to subscribe to units of the new scheme at a fixed price, typically ₹10 per unit. This process allows the AMC to raise capital for the fund's initial portfolio. NFOs are a common way for investors to enter a new mutual fund strategy or thematic investment avenue. They are heavily marketed by banks, financial advisors, and online platforms. The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) regulates NFOs to ensure transparency and investor protection. While NFOs may offer low entry prices, they come with risks as the fund has no past performance track record. Investors often compare NFOs with existing open-ended funds to decide. For competitive exams like IBPS PO, RBI Grade B, and SEBI Grade A, questions on NFOs appear under financial markets awareness. Knowing the difference between NFO and IPO, lock-in periods, and expense ratios is key. NFOs are usually open for a limited subscription period, after which the fund starts trading like any other mutual fund. They are an important tool for wealth creation but require due diligence.
