Net Domestic Product
Full Form of NDP
What is NDP?
Net Domestic Product (NDP) is an economic metric that represents the total value of all goods and services produced within a country's borders in a given period, minus the depreciation of capital assets. In India, NDP is a crucial indicator of the economy's net output after accounting for wear and tear on machinery, buildings, and infrastructure. It is calculated by subtracting depreciation from Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) regularly publishes NDP figures as part of the national accounts statistics. NDP is used by economists, policymakers, and analysts to assess the sustainable growth of the economy, as it reflects the actual increase in productive capacity. It is particularly relevant for UPSC, SSC, and banking exams in India, where questions on national income aggregates frequently appear. Understanding NDP helps students differentiate between gross and net measures of economic performance and evaluates how capital consumption affects long-term growth. NDP also serves as a basis for formulating fiscal policies, investment strategies, and development plans at both central and state levels.
