National Digital Health Mission
Full Form of NDH
What is NDH?
The National Digital Health Mission (NDH) is a flagship initiative of the Government of India, launched in August 2020, aimed at creating a unified digital health ecosystem across the country. It seeks to digitize healthcare records, enable seamless sharing of medical data, and provide citizens with a unique Health ID. The mission operates under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and is a key component of the broader Ayushman Bharat program. NDH is implemented through platforms like the Health Records Exchange and the National Health Claims Exchange to ensure interoperability among healthcare providers. It is used by patients, hospitals, labs, and insurers to access and manage health records digitally. The mission is particularly relevant for competitive exams like UPSC, state civil services, and health-sector roles as it represents India's push towards digital governance and universal health coverage. NDH has been rebranded as the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) but continues to be referred to by its original acronym in many official documents. Its adoption is increasing across states, with pilot projects in Union Territories like Chandigarh and Ladakh.
