What is NAF?
The National Academy of Forensic (NAF) is a premier training institute under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, dedicated to advancing forensic science in the country. Established with the objective of providing state-of-the-art training to forensic experts, police officers, and judicial officers, it plays a pivotal role in strengthening India's criminal justice system. Located in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, the NAF offers specialized courses in forensic biology, chemistry, toxicology, digital forensics, and crime scene investigation. It also conducts research and development to keep pace with evolving forensic techniques and legal requirements. The academy works closely with other agencies such as the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) and State Forensic Science Laboratories (SFSLs) to ensure uniformity and excellence in forensic analysis across India. Its training programs are essential for investigating officers and forensic scientists who are working on complex cases involving cybercrime, fraud, and heinous offenses. For competitive exams like UPSC Civil Services, CAPF, or state police services, knowledge of the NAF is relevant as it represents a key government institution in forensic science and law enforcement.
