Maruti Udyog Limited
Full Form of MUL
What is MUL?
Maruti Udyog Limited (MUL) was the original name of Maruti Suzuki India Limited, India's largest passenger car manufacturer. Established in 1981 as a joint venture between the Government of India and Suzuki Motor Corporation of Japan, MUL revolutionized the Indian automobile industry by introducing affordable, fuel-efficient cars like the Maruti 800. The company began production in 1983 and quickly dominated the Indian market, becoming synonymous with reliable small cars. MUL was headquartered in New Delhi and played a crucial role in shaping India's automotive ecosystem, including dealership networks, service centers, and local supplier industries. In 2003, the company was renamed Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) as Suzuki increased its stake, but the acronym MUL is still used historically in financial discussions, stock market references (BSE: MUL), and old documents. Today, Maruti Suzuki continues to hold the largest market share in India's passenger vehicle segment. For competitive exams like UPSC and banking, MUL is a key example of India's industrial policy and public-private partnership models.
