Land Zoning Plan
Full Form of LZP
What is LZP?
A Land Zoning Plan (LZP) is a statutory document that divides a municipality or region into different zones, such as residential, commercial, industrial, agricultural, and recreational, to regulate land use and development. In India, LZPs are prepared by town planning departments under the respective state's urban development authorities, often as part of a Master Plan. They play a crucial role in controlling urban sprawl, ensuring orderly growth, and protecting environmentally sensitive areas. LZPs are used by local bodies for granting building permissions, assessing property taxes, and guiding infrastructure projects. These plans are typically revised every 10–20 years and involve public participation through hearings. For students of civil engineering, architecture, and urban planning, understanding LZP is essential for competitive exams like GATE, State PSCs, and the UPSC Civil Services Examination, especially in papers related to urban development and governance.
