Laser Security Zone
Full Form of LSZ
What is LSZ?
A Laser Security Zone (LSZ) is a designated perimeter area protected by laser-based detection systems that monitor for intrusions. In India, LSZs are deployed by the Indian Army and the Border Security Force (BSF) along sensitive borders such as the Line of Control (LoC) and international borders to detect unauthorised movement with high precision. The system uses laser beams to create an invisible barrier; any break in the beam triggers an alert. LSZs are also used around high-value defence installations, ammunition depots, and critical infrastructure like nuclear facilities. The technology is valued for its low false-alarm rate and ability to operate in varied terrain. It is part of India’s modernisation of border surveillance, often integrated with radar, CCTV, and alarm systems. For competitive exams like CDS and NDA, understanding LSZ is relevant under the defence technology syllabus. The system reduces human dependency and enhances night-time security, making it a key component of India's national security strategy.
