What is LGR?
Load Generation and Regulation (LGR) is a fundamental concept in electrical power system operation that involves balancing the electricity load demand with the power generation output to maintain grid stability and frequency within acceptable limits. In India, LGR is critical for the operation of the National Grid, where regional load dispatch centers continuously monitor and adjust generation from thermal, hydro, nuclear, and renewable sources to match fluctuating demand. It is used in real-time by engineers and system operators, especially during peak hours and when integrating variable renewable energy. LGR principles are also applied in designing automatic generation control (AGC) systems and load shedding schemes to prevent blackouts.
