Local Employment Bureau
Full Form of LEB
What is LEB?
The Local Employment Bureau (LEB) is a government office at the district or city level in India that facilitates job placement and employment-related services for job seekers and employers. Operating under the National Employment Service (NES) framework, LEBs maintain a database of registered candidates, provide vocational guidance, organise skill training programmes, and assist in matching suitable job openings with qualified applicants. They also collect and disseminate labour market information to help inform policy and planning. LEBs are most commonly used by unemployed youth, fresh graduates, and workers seeking to upgrade their skills. Job seekers register with their local LEB to receive notifications about government and private sector vacancies, apprenticeship opportunities, and career counselling sessions. Employers may also partner with LEBs to advertise positions and shortlist candidates. For competitive exams like the UPSC or state public service commissions, candidates are often advised to register with their LEB to stay updated on job fairs and placement drives. Despite the rise of online portals, LEBs remain an important physical touchpoint for bridging the employment gap, especially in rural and semi-urban areas of India.
