Kendriya Zonal Mandal
Full Form of KZM
What is KZM?
Kendriya Zonal Mandal (KZM) refers to a Central Zonal Council, a statutory body established under the States Reorganisation Act of 1956 to foster inter-state cooperation in India. Each zonal council acts as a forum for states within a geographical zone to discuss issues such as economic development, border disputes, security, and resource sharing. The central government appoints a Union Minister as the chairman, while the chief ministers of the member states serve as vice-chairmen and members. KZMs meet periodically to review progress on joint projects, resolve conflicts, and advise on matters of common interest. In India, there are five zonal councils — Northern, Southern, Eastern, Western, and Central — with the Northeastern Council established separately. KZM is used in administrative and political discourse, particularly when referring to regional planning or dispute resolution. For competitive exams like UPSC, knowledge of zonal councils falls under the Indian polity syllabus, making KZM a relevant term for aspirants.
