Kudumbashree Village Women
Full Form of KVW
What is KVW?
KVW stands for Kudumbashree Village Women, a key component of the Kudumbashree Mission, Kerala's flagship poverty eradication and women's empowerment programme. Launched in 1998 by the Kerala State Government, Kudumbashree operates through a three-tier network of neighbourhood groups (NHGs), area development societies, and community development societies. KVW specifically refers to the grassroots-level village women who form these NHGs, typically comprising 15-20 women from below-poverty-line families. These groups function as self-help collectives, enabling women to save small amounts, access interest-free loans, and pursue livelihood activities such as agriculture, small-scale manufacturing, or service enterprises. The KVW model has been widely recognised for its role in financial inclusion, social leadership, and reducing gender inequality in rural Kerala. It is prominently used in government reports, development studies, and policy discussions on participatory democracy. For competitive exams like UPSC, Kerala PSC, and banking exams, questions on Kudumbashree and its KVW strategy often appear under topics of social justice, poverty alleviation schemes, and women's self-help groups. The programme's success has inspired similar models across India, making KVW a relevant acronym for aspirants preparing for civil services or welfare-oriented positions.
