Kisan Uttam Suraksha
Full Form of KUS
What is KUS?
Kisan Uttam Suraksha (KUS) is a Central Sector Scheme launched by the Government of India under the Department of Fertilizers. It aims to promote the balanced use of fertilizers, particularly micronutrients, to enhance soil health and crop productivity. The scheme provides financial assistance to farmers for the procurement of micronutrients like zinc, boron, and iron, as well as soil amendments such as gypsum and lime. KUS is implemented through the Soil Health Card scheme, encouraging farmers to apply fertilizers based on soil test recommendations. The initiative is part of the government's broader effort to reduce soil degradation and ensure sustainable agriculture. It is primarily used in agricultural extension activities and is referenced in competitive exams such as UPSC, State PSCs, and ICAR exams under the topic of government schemes for farmers. KUS addresses the issue of nutrient deficiency in Indian soils, which affects nearly 50% of agricultural land. By supporting the use of secondary and micronutrients, the scheme helps increase yields and farmer incomes. The scheme is operational across all states and union territories, with funding shared between the central and state governments. It aligns with the National Mission for Sustainable Agriculture and the Soil Health Management programme.
