Kerala State Civil Defence
Full Form of KSCD
What is KSCD?
Kerala State Civil Defence (KSCD) is a state-level organization in Kerala under the National Civil Defence Policy, operating under the administrative control of the State Home Department. Its primary role is to prepare and train civilian volunteers for disaster response, emergency management, and community safety. KSCD volunteers are trained in first aid, search and rescue, firefighting, and evacuation procedures, and are deployed during natural calamities such as floods, cyclones, and landslides, which are frequent in Kerala due to its geography. The force also conducts awareness campaigns on disaster preparedness and assists the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) in relief operations. KSCD is activated during emergencies declared by the state government and operates through district-level units. For competitive exams like Kerala PSC, Fire and Rescue Services, and Disaster Management examinations, knowledge of KSCD’s structure, functions, and its alignment with national civil defence protocols is often tested. Understanding KSCD is crucial for aspirants seeking roles in state emergency services and civil defence administration.
