Kerala Farmers' Union
Full Form of KFU
What is KFU?
The Kerala Farmers' Union (KFU) is a grassroots organisation representing the interests of farmers in the Indian state of Kerala. It was formed to address issues specific to the region, such as land fragmentation, fluctuating crop prices, lack of irrigation facilities, and inadequate market access. KFU actively participates in state-level policy discussions, conducts awareness campaigns on sustainable farming, and organises protests and negotiations with government bodies when farmers' demands are unmet. The union is particularly active during the planting and harvest seasons of Kharif crops like paddy and during the marketing of cash crops such as rubber, coconut, and spices. KFU works alongside other agricultural unions and cooperatives in Kerala, often collaborating with the state's agriculture department to implement schemes. For competitive exams like the Kerala Agricultural Officer exam or the ICAR JRF, knowledge of farmer organisations like KFU is relevant because they form part of the institutional support system for Indian agriculture. The union's activities are widely covered in regional Malayalam newspapers and agri-news portals. KFU is one among several state-level farmer unions that together shape India's agrarian landscape.
