Kisan Credit Yojana
Full Form of KCY
What is KCY?
The Kisan Credit Yojana (KCY) is a government initiative primarily aimed at providing short-term crop loans and other agricultural credit to farmers in India. Introduced in 1998 as part of the Kisan Credit Card scheme, it facilitates timely access to funds for cultivation, post-harvest expenses, and other farm-related needs. The scheme is implemented through banks – including commercial, cooperative, and regional rural banks – and is backed by the Reserve Bank of India and NABARD. KCY is widely used across rural India, especially during sowing and harvesting seasons, and has significantly reduced farmers' dependence on informal moneylenders. It covers inputs like seeds, fertilisers, pesticides, and also supports allied activities such as dairy and fisheries. The scheme is integral to India's agricultural finance ecosystem and is frequently tested in banking, agriculture, and civil services examinations. By providing affordable credit with a simple application process, KCY has improved financial inclusion and contributed to the stability of the agricultural sector.
