Jute Technical Wing
Full Form of JTW
What is JTW?
The Jute Technical Wing (JTW) is a specialised unit under the Office of the Jute Commissioner, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. It is responsible for quality control, standardisation, and testing of jute products to ensure compliance with mandatory standards under the Jute Packaging Materials Act. The JTW operates through regional laboratories located in major jute-producing states like West Bengal, Bihar, and Assam. These laboratories conduct physical, mechanical, and chemical tests on raw jute, jute yarn, hessian, sacking, and other jute goods. The wing also provides technical guidance to jute mills and exporters, helping maintain India’s reputation as a leading producer and exporter of jute. The JTW plays a crucial role in the implementation of the Jute Packaging Materials (Compulsory Use in Packing Commodities) Act, which mandates that a certain percentage of food grains and sugar must be packed in jute bags. For competitive exams like UPSC or SSC, understanding the JTW’s role in public procurement and the jute sector is relevant under the Ministry of Textiles.
