Jammu and Kashmir Jan Jagran Dal
Full Form of JJD
What is JJD?
The Jammu and Kashmir Jan Jagran Dal (JJD) is a regional political party based in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir, India. It was founded in 2020 by former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former deputy chief minister Kavinder Gupta, along with other disgruntled BJP members, to articulate the interests of the Jammu region within the broader political landscape of Jammu and Kashmir. The party’s name, meaning 'People's Awakening Forum', reflects its aim to mobilise local public opinion on issues such as regional development, security, employment, and identity. JJD primarily operates within the Jammu region, participating in district-level and state assembly elections. It positions itself as a party that bridges the gap between the Hindu-majority Jammu belt and the rest of the Union Territory, advocating for equitable resource distribution and cultural preservation. The party has contested local body elections and by-polls, often aligning with other nationalist parties. For students of Indian political science or competitive exams such as the UPSC, the JJD serves as a case study of regional party formation, coalition politics, and the shifting dynamics of party allegiances in Jammu and Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370.
