Full Form of JBC
What is JBC?
The Jute Board of India (JBC) is a statutory body established under the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. It was constituted under the Jute Packaging Materials (Compulsory use in Packing Commodities) Act, 1987, and functions as the apex agency for the promotion and development of the jute sector in India. Headquartered in Kolkata, West Bengal, the board oversees policies related to jute cultivation, production, quality control, and market development. It ensures compliance with the mandatory jute packaging order for commodities like food grains and sugar, thereby safeguarding the interests of jute farmers and mill workers. The JBC also facilitates exports, encourages innovation in jute products, and supports research for sustainable jute farming. In competitive exams such as UPSC, SSC, and state civil services, questions on jute policy and the role of the Jute Board are common under the Indian economy and agriculture segments. The board plays a vital role in sustaining one of India's oldest industries, which employs around 4 million people, predominantly in West Bengal and Bihar.
