What is IYP?
The Indian Youth Parliament (IYP) is a non-profit organization dedicated to nurturing leadership, civic engagement, and democratic values among young Indians. Founded in 2004, IYP conducts mock parliamentary sessions, debates, and leadership workshops across schools, colleges, and universities. Its primary role is to provide a platform for youth to simulate the workings of the Indian Parliament, enabling them to understand legislative processes, policy-making, and public speaking. IYP is widely used by students and professionals aged 15–30 who aspire to careers in politics, civil services, or social activism. The organization holds annual national and regional conventions, often in collaboration with educational institutions and government bodies. For competitive exams like UPSC or state civil services, participation in IYP is seen as valuable extracurricular experience that demonstrates leadership and awareness of governance. Through its structured programs, IYP fosters a culture of constructive debate and constitutional literacy, helping shape the next generation of Indian leaders.
