Indian Quantum Mission
Full Form of IQM
What is IQM?
The Indian Quantum Mission (IQM) is a flagship initiative of the Government of India aimed at accelerating research and development in quantum technologies. Launched under the Department of Science and Technology, IQM focuses on building indigenous capabilities in quantum computing, quantum communication, quantum sensing, and quantum materials. The mission is part of India's National Quantum Mission (NQM) and seeks to position the country as a global leader in this emerging field. IQM involves collaboration between premier academic institutions like IISc, IITs, and national laboratories, along with industry partners. It supports fundamental research as well as applied projects to develop practical quantum systems. The mission is particularly relevant for students and researchers preparing for competitive exams such as GATE, NET, and JEST, as quantum technology is an increasingly important topic in physics and engineering curricula. IQM also aligns with India's broader Digital India initiative and aims to strengthen national security through quantum cryptography. The mission is implemented through a series of thematic hubs and centers of excellence across the country.
