Indira Kranthi Patham
Full Form of IKP
What is IKP?
Indira Kranthi Patham (IKP) is a flagship poverty alleviation and women empowerment mission implemented by the Government of Andhra Pradesh and later adopted in Telangana. Launched in 2000, it aims to organise rural women into self-help groups (SHGs) to enhance their livelihoods, financial inclusion, and social capital. IKP operates through a community-driven model, providing microcredit, skill training, market linkages, and support for income-generating activities. The programme has been instrumental in reducing rural poverty by enabling women to become entrepreneurs and decision-makers within their households and communities. IKP is managed by the Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty (SERP) and covers all districts in both states. Its success has influenced national schemes like DAY-NRLM. For competitive exams such as UPSC, APPSC, and TSPSC, IKP is a key example of a state-led SHG movement. The mission also addresses issues like nutrition, health, and education through its federated structure. With over a crore women members, IKP stands as one of India's largest community-based development initiatives. Its holistic approach integrates social mobilisation with economic empowerment, making it a model for rural transformation.
