Indian Hydrogen Exchange
Full Form of IHX
What is IHX?
The Indian Hydrogen Exchange (IHX) is a digital marketplace established under India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission to facilitate the trading of hydrogen and its derivatives. It provides a transparent platform for producers, consumers, and traders to buy and sell green hydrogen, enabling price discovery and contract standardisation. Launched in 2024, IHX is operated by the Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) and is regulated by the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC). It is used by energy companies, industrial users, and government agencies involved in the hydrogen value chain. The exchange supports India’s target of becoming a global hub for green hydrogen production and export by 2030. By creating a liquid market, IHX reduces transaction costs and encourages investment in hydrogen infrastructure. For students preparing for exams like UPSC, understanding IHX is relevant for questions on energy security, climate change, and government initiatives. The platform also integrates with renewable energy certificates, allowing producers to monetize clean energy attributes. IHX marks a significant step in India’s transition to a low-carbon economy, aligning with the country’s commitments under the Paris Agreement.
