Integrated Bachelor of Vocation
Full Form of IBV
What is IBV?
The Integrated Bachelor of Vocation (IBV) is a skill-based undergraduate degree program introduced by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under the National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF) in India. It combines academic learning with vocational training to produce job-ready graduates. Typically spanning three to four years, the IBV offers specialization in fields like retail, healthcare, IT, hospitality, and banking, with multiple exit points—certificate, diploma, advanced diploma, and degree—each aligned to NSQF levels. The curriculum includes 60% practical training and 40% theory, often through apprenticeships or industry internships. IBV aims to bridge the skill gap by focusing on employability and entrepreneurship, making it popular among students from rural and semi-urban areas seeking early employment. Universities such as Delhi University, University of Mumbai, and Banaras Hindu University offer this program. For competitive exams like UGC NET or state-level teacher eligibility tests, IBV holders may need additional qualifications, but the degree is recognized for government jobs under the skill development vertical. The program is increasingly relevant in India's push toward vocational education as per the National Education Policy 2020.
