Integrated Action Zone
Full Form of IAZ
What is IAZ?
An Integrated Action Zone (IAZ) is a designated geographical area under the Government of India's Integrated Action Plan (IAP) for Left Wing Extremism (LWE) affected districts. The concept aims to concentrate developmental resources – infrastructure, social welfare, and security measures – in a coordinated manner to address long-standing deficits and reduce insurgent influence. In India, IAZs are identified by the Ministry of Home Affairs in consultation with state governments, typically in tribal and backward regions. The term is used in policy documents, district planning reports, and monitoring frameworks. It streamlines fund allocation from multiple central schemes like PMGSY, JJM, and MGNREGA. For students preparing for UPSC, state civil services, or competitive exams, understanding IAZ is relevant under internal security, tribal development, and governance topics. While IAP refers to the overarching programme, IAZ specifies the spatial focus for intervention. This distinction helps in evaluating ground-level implementation and impact assessment in conflict zones.
