What is HVQ?

The Higher Vocational Qualification (HVQ) is a certification level under India's National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF). It represents advanced vocational training that blends practical skills with theoretical knowledge, typically pursued after completing lower vocational levels or secondary education. HVQ is delivered through Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), polytechnics, community colleges, and other NSQF-aligned centres. In India, HVQ plays a crucial role in the government's Skill India mission by creating a skilled workforce for sectors like manufacturing, construction, healthcare, and information technology. It is classified into levels (ranging from 4 to 7), each corresponding to increasing complexity and workplace responsibility. Students can enroll after Class 10 or 12, and certification is awarded by authorised bodies recognised by the National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET). Assessment includes both theory examinations and practical demonstrations aligned with industry standards.
