Hindustan Lever Limited
Full Form of HLS
What is HLS?
Hindustan Lever Limited (HLS) was one of India's largest and most iconic fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) companies. It was established in 1933 as a subsidiary of the British-Dutch company Lever Brothers, later part of Unilever. HLS became a household name in India through its extensive portfolio of soaps, detergents, personal care products, and foods, including brands like Lux, Lifebuoy, Surf Excel, Ponds, and Kissan. For decades, it played a pivotal role in shaping India's consumer market and was widely regarded as a bellwether for the FMCG sector. The company's operations spanned manufacturing, marketing, and distribution across urban and rural India. In 2007, HLS was renamed Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL) to align with Unilever's global branding strategy. Despite the name change, the legacy of HLS remains significant in Indian business history and is often studied in management and commerce curricula. Understanding HLS helps students grasp the evolution of corporate branding and multinational operations in India.
