Hindustan Lever Limited
Full Form of HLL
What is HLL?
Hindustan Lever Limited (HLL) was the Indian subsidiary of the British-Dutch company Unilever, and one of India’s largest fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) companies. Established in 1933 as Lever Brothers India Limited, it was renamed Hindustan Lever Limited in 1956. For decades, HLL dominated the Indian market with iconic brands such as Lifebuoy, Lux, Surf Excel, Pepsodent, and Knorr. The company played a transformative role in Indian business history by pioneering modern marketing, distribution networks, and rural outreach. In 2007, it was renamed Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL) to align with the global Unilever identity. HLL is often studied in business and management courses as a case study of brand building, merger strategies, and market leadership in an emerging economy. The acronym remains relevant in business history and competitive exam sections on Indian industry and corporate milestones.
