Good Practice
Full Form of GXP
What is GXP?
GxP is a generic abbreviation for 'Good Practice' quality guidelines and regulations that govern the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical device industries. The 'x' stands for a specific area, such as Manufacturing (GMP), Laboratory (GLP), or Clinical (GCP). In India, GxP compliance is enforced by agencies like the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) and the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI). These practices ensure that products are consistently produced, tested, and monitored according to quality standards, safeguarding consumer safety and data integrity. GxP is applied throughout the product lifecycle—from research and development to production, storage, and distribution. Indian pharmaceutical companies, a major global supplier of generic drugs, must adhere to GxP to export to regulated markets like the US and Europe. Additionally, the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) mandates GxP for testing facilities. For students preparing for GPAT, NIPER, or pharmacy exams, understanding GxP is crucial as it forms the foundation of quality assurance. The term also extends to agriculture (GAP) and distribution (GDP), reflecting its broad relevance.
