Gujarat Mineral Foundation
Full Form of GMF
What is GMF?
The Gujarat Mineral Foundation (GMF) is a trust established by the Government of Gujarat under the provisions of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act to promote the welfare of communities in mining-affected areas. It operates by collecting funds from mining lease holders—typically a portion of the royalty paid—and utilises them for infrastructure development, education, healthcare, water supply, and other social upliftment projects in the surrounding villages. The foundation plays a critical role in bridging the gap between resource extraction and sustainable development, ensuring that the benefits of mining reach the local population. GMF is primarily referenced in state government policy documents, mining tender conditions, and Gujarat’s annual budget allocations. It is particularly relevant for aspirants preparing for the Gujarat Public Service Commission (GPSC) exams, state-level mining officer positions, and environmental impact assessments. The foundation also coordinates with other state agencies like the Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation (GMDC) to implement projects. By mandating contributions from mining operators, GMF holds both private and public sector firms accountable for corporate social responsibility in the mineral-rich districts of Kutch, Banaskantha, and Surat. Its activities are audited and reported to the state assembly, making it a transparent mechanism for regional development.
