Full Form of GMB
What is GMB?
The Gujarat Maritime Board (GMB) is a state government statutory body constituted under the Gujarat Maritime Board Act, 1981. It is responsible for the regulation, development, and management of minor ports and inland waterways along the long coastline of Gujarat, which stretches over 1,600 kilometers. GMB oversees 41 minor ports, including major commercial hubs like Mundra, Kandla, and Pipavav, handling a significant portion of India's non-major port cargo. The board also promotes private sector participation in port infrastructure projects and facilitates maritime trade, logistics, and coastal shipping. GMB plays a crucial role in Gujarat's economy, which contributes substantially to India's total port traffic. It works in coordination with the Indian Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways and port trusts. For competitive exams like UPSC, Gujarat PSC, or SSC, knowledge of GMB is important under the topics of state government organizations, port infrastructure, and maritime policies in India.
