What is GJY?

Gram Jyoti Yojana (GJY) is a rural electrification scheme launched by the Government of India aimed at providing continuous electricity supply to rural areas. The scheme focuses on separating agricultural and non-agricultural feeders to ensure reliable power for households, schools, health centres, and small businesses. It was introduced as part of the broader Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY) in 2014-15, replacing the earlier Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana. GJY is implemented by the Ministry of Power and state electricity boards, with a target to electrify all villages and improve the quality of power in rural India.
