Gram Jyoti Yojana
Full Form of GJY
What is GJY?
Gram Jyoti Yojana (GJY) is a rural electrification scheme launched by the Government of India aimed at providing continuous electricity supply to rural areas. The scheme focuses on separating agricultural and non-agricultural feeders to ensure reliable power for households, schools, health centres, and small businesses. It was introduced as part of the broader Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY) in 2014-15, replacing the earlier Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana. GJY is implemented by the Ministry of Power and state electricity boards, with a target to electrify all villages and improve the quality of power in rural India. The scheme is particularly relevant for students preparing for competitive exams like UPSC, SSC, and state public service commissions, as questions on government schemes and rural development frequently appear. By addressing energy poverty, GJY contributes to improved education, healthcare, and economic opportunities in villages, aligning with the government's vision of ‘Power for All’. Its success is measured through parameters such as the number of villages electrified, reduction in power outages, and increase in rural entrepreneurship.
