Field Headquarters
Full Form of FHQ
What is FHQ?
Field Headquarters (FHQ) is a tactical command center established by the Indian Armed Forces to coordinate and direct military operations in a specific geographical area or theater. Unlike static peacetime headquarters, FHQ is a mobile or semi-permanent setup that moves closer to the frontlines to ensure real-time decision-making, rapid response, and effective communication between field units and higher command echelons. In India, FHQ is primarily used by the Army, but also by joint task forces during counter-insurgency operations, border patrols, and disaster relief missions. It comprises specialized staff managing intelligence, logistics, operations, and communications. FHQ plays a critical role in maintaining operational readiness and strategic superiority, especially in sensitive regions like Kashmir, Northeast India, and along the Line of Actual Control. For students preparing for defence exams like NDA, CDS, or SSB interviews, understanding the structure and function of FHQ is essential as it tests knowledge of military administration and tactics.
