Faculty Development Programme
Full Form of FDP
What is FDP?
A Faculty Development Programme (FDP) is a structured training initiative aimed at enhancing the teaching, research, and professional skills of educators in Indian higher education institutions. Typically organized by universities, colleges, or regulatory bodies like AICTE and UGC, FDPs cover pedagogical techniques, emerging technologies, curriculum design, and domain-specific advancements. These programmes are often conducted as workshops, short-term courses, or online modules, lasting from a few days to several weeks. In India, FDPs are crucial for implementing the National Education Policy 2020, which emphasizes continuous professional development for faculty. They are widely attended by assistant professors, associate professors, and lecturers across engineering, management, science, and humanities disciplines. Participation in FDPs is frequently considered for career advancement, promotions, and accreditation requirements under NAAC and NBA. For competitive exams like UGC NET, awareness of FDPs as a professional development mechanism is relevant. FDPs foster a culture of lifelong learning and help educators adapt to evolving student needs and industry demands.
