Electronic Warfare Exercise
Full Form of EWX
What is EWX?
An Electronic Warfare Exercise (EWX) is a military training event focused on operations involving the electromagnetic spectrum—such as jamming, deception, and signals intelligence—to test and improve a force's ability to disrupt enemy communications while protecting its own. In India, EWXs are conducted by all three branches of the armed forces, notably the Indian Air Force and the Indian Navy, to simulate modern electronic threats and countermeasures. These exercises are critical for maintaining readiness in an era where radar, communications, and cyber systems dominate the battlefield. EWXs are held regularly at dedicated ranges or during larger joint exercises like Exercise Gagan Shakti or Exercise Milan. They involve real-world scenarios where personnel practice detecting, intercepting, and neutralizing electronic emissions without causing actual harm. For students preparing for defence exams such as the CDS or AFCAT, understanding EWX is important as it reflects the Indian military's focus on network-centric warfare and electronic warfare capabilities. The exercise helps refine tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs) for electronic attack, protection, and support, ensuring forces can operate effectively in contested electromagnetic environments.
