Earn While You Learn
Full Form of EWU
What is EWU?
Earn While You Learn (EWU) is an educational and vocational concept that allows students to gain practical work experience and earn money while continuing their studies. In India, EWU programs are widely implemented through apprenticeship schemes, industrial training institutes (ITIs), polytechnics, and university-level internship courses. The model is a cornerstone of the Skill India initiative and the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS), which aims to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry requirements. Students engage in part-time employment, paid internships, or on-the-job training, typically in sectors like manufacturing, IT, retail, and services. EWU is particularly relevant for diploma and degree programs that mandate industrial exposure, such as B.Voc, engineering, and hotel management courses. The concept is also promoted by the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and various state skill missions. For competitive exams like UPSC, SSC, and banking, EWU appears in questions related to government skills policies, labour reforms, and the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 emphasis on experiential learning. By combining earning with education, EWU helps reduce dropout rates, improves financial independence for underprivileged students, and builds a job-ready workforce that meets India's growing economic demands.
