Employment Skills Kendra
Full Form of ESK
What is ESK?
Employment Skills Kendra (ESK) refers to a network of skill development centres established in India under various government initiatives such as the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) and the National Skill Development Mission. These centres are designed to provide short-term vocational training and certification to youth, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas, aiming to enhance employability and bridge the gap between industry demand and workforce supply. ESKs are operated by empanelled training partners, often in collaboration with Sector Skill Councils (SSCs), and offer courses in trades like retail, healthcare, IT, construction, and agriculture. They are commonly found in district headquarters, industrial training institutes (ITIs), and community centres. The concept gained momentum with the Skill India campaign launched in 2015, and ESKs play a critical role in delivering hands-on training, soft skills, and job placement support. For students preparing for competitive exams like SSC, UPSC, or banking, understanding ESKs is relevant under the topics of government schemes, human resource development, and skill-based employment policies in India.
