Electronic Justice System
Full Form of EJS
What is EJS?
The Electronic Justice System (EJS) is a digital platform aimed at transforming the Indian judiciary through automation, online case management, and virtual court proceedings. It is a key component of the e-Courts project under the Ministry of Law and Justice, designed to reduce pendency, enhance transparency, and provide litigants with easy access to case status, cause lists, and judgments. EJS integrates modules such as e-Filing, video conferencing for hearings, and the National Judicial Data Grid (NJDG) to monitor real-time case statistics across district and subordinate courts. It is widely used by judges, lawyers, court staff, and citizens across all states and union territories, particularly after the COVID-19 pandemic accelerated digital adoption. The system also supports the paperless functioning of tribunals and high courts, making it a cornerstone of India's e-Governance roadmap. For law students and judiciary aspirants, understanding EJS is crucial because questions on digital justice and e-Courts frequently appear in competitive exams like CLAT and judicial services examinations. EJS represents a significant shift from traditional courtroom procedures to a tech-enabled, efficient, and accessible legal ecosystem.
